IRAN The term for a lawyer in Iran is Attorney at Law. Partnerships are permitted. The requirements for admission to practice are a law degree followed by successful completion of an entry examination and an eighteen month apprenticeship under the supervision of an authorized Attorney at Law elected by the bar association and having at least ten years of experience. The applicant must successfully complete a bar examination at the end of the apprenticeship and may then appear before any court in Iran. Foreign lawyers may not appear before any court in Iran.

The Notary Public in Iran must possess the same educational background as an Attorney at Law, though the two are separate professions and an Attorney at Law may not function as a Notary Public. A Notary Public draws up official documents and certifies cases and signatures. The official language of the courts is Persian.
